What You Need to Know about Story Struggles

On average, 90% of an iceberg is under the surface.

What has always fascinated me about this picture is how powerful a visual it serves for us as people.

Through years of conversations with both struggling and successful people, I’ve come to this ground-breaking conclusion: there’s always more going on than we can see.

The point of that truth is not that you walk around on eggshells hoping not to offend people.

*sidenote* If you are constantly offending people, I would maybe work on that.

What if we decided to live more aware that everyone, including ourselves, has a library of stories beneath the surface?

Stories that we probably have not read - Or that we even knew existed.

You and I don’t know every bit of emotion or tension, all the wins and losses, that have brought someone to the place they are today.

In the same way, many around us don’t fully understand all that we have gone through or are going through.

Many of us are drawn to immediately think of all the tangible, documented, physical moments that we go through. But what about the metaphysical?

There’s debate surrounding how many thoughts we average in a day. However many thousands of thoughts we have, the percentage of negative thoughts stands at 80%.

4/5 of our thoughts are negative and over 90% of them trend as repetitive.

Has your thought life ever brought your mood down or created self-doubt, anxiety, and stress? *awkwardly raises hand and nods*

How many of our thousands of thoughts per day have we shared with our significant other, family, therapist and/or friends?

Probably a very small percentage, if any. You’re not alone in that. And I believe something needs to change.

Be kind to yourself.

Be kind to others.

There are stories beneath the surface that haven’t been read yet.

Action: Ask someone about their story today.
