When Time Won’t Slow Down

Where did the time go?

Have you ever found yourself asking this question?  I have.  Plenty of times!

Usually, I’m asking this question around birthdays or holidays.  Those significant moments that tend to bring about reflection.

Two of our children have birthdays this month.

Every year when this month hits, we’re always asked or often asking ourselves, “How did that happen?!” or “How did they get so big?!”

The days are long but the years are short.
— every parent in history

The reality is, they’re growing everyday and our busy lives keep time moving at a quick pace.

We’ve found one thing that helps slow time down just a little.  And I’d like to share it.

Storytelling.

Sharing stories from the past.

Sharing stories from this morning.

Sharing stories we wish to see in the future.

Every year, we share stories with our children about what they were like when they were younger.

We share stories about what they did last week.  We share stories about the people we see them becoming.

Stories don’t stop the clock of life.

But they help us appreciate the clock as it continues to tick.

Of course, there are moments we wish we could go back to at times.  When life were simpler.

But what does that even mean?  I’m not sure we know!

Here are the two things storytelling with others does for me:

  1. Fills my heart with gratefulness.

  2. Fills my head with vision.

I’m grateful for the people in my stories and those I get to share them with.

And I’m excited to move on with my day and week to live more stories that will be told soon.

You have good stories to tell today.

You have good stories to live today.

Don’t try to stop the clock - share stories for a refreshing view of the time.
